We are delighted that you are interested in Alabama’s only Waldorf School!

Once you have read through the information below about the admissions process, please contact our Admissions Director, Opal South, to schedule a tour.

We look forward to speaking with you about the educational opportunities for your child here at AWS!

Steps for Admission

  1.   Tour our school!

This is an informational session designed to introduce you to Waldorf Education as it is carried out at AWS. You will hear about the trajectory of the curriculum from preschool through Grade 8, as well as a short history of Waldorf Education. This is also your opportunity to visit the classes while they are in session.

Tours are offered every Tuesday at 9am. Please call the office to reserve your spot, or to schedule a different time in the event that you are unable to attend a regularly-scheduled tour.

    1. Application

Complete an Application for Admission and submit it, along with a $100 non-refundable, one-time fee, to a staff member in the AWS office.

    2. Classroom Observation

This is an important part of the admissions process because it is when the child actually visits the prospective classroom to see what a regular Waldorf school day is like. During the student’s visit, both s/he and the teacher have the opportunity to ensure the class is a good fit.

    3. Parent Interview

The teacher and parent will meet to discuss classroom expectations and school policies, particularly our policies on healthy foods and limited exposure to media at home. This is also the time when any questions or concerns may be addressed by either the parent(s) or the teacher to ensure the school is a good fit for the prospective family.

    4. Enrollment Contract
    5. If your child is accepted, you will be asked to complete and sign an Enrollment Contract which includes a non-refundable Registration Fee of $150. In the case of a full class, your name will be added to a waiting list and we will notify you as soon as space in the program becomes available.

    6. Meeting with the Finance Director

If your child is accepted, you will spend a few minutes discussing contract payment terms with the Finance Director.  She will explain our off-site tuition collection system (FACTS) and answer any questions about finances or tuition adjustment applications.
