AWS Alumni News

May 10, 2018

These Alabama Waldorf School alumns are winning prestigious awards and traveling abroad to use their world language skills to benefit kids in other countries. We are so proud of them!

Karen Hunt, an AWS alumnus from Ms. Lynda Powell’s class, graduates from Portland Waldorf School this month. Her mom Kristin says, “I credit AWS and her Waldorf Education for producing such an inquisitive young woman who has a passion for reading, science, and learning.” Karen won the President's Scholarship at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA and will start college there this fall. Congratulations, Karen!

This April, Daniel Blokh, currently in his junior year at Alabama School of Fine Arts, won First Prize and $500 in the 2018 Leonard L. Milberg ’53 High School Poetry Prize from Princeton University for his poem, "To My First Language." The award was presented by the American poet laureate Tracy K. Smith. Daniel has already published two volumes of poetry (on sale at Books-A-Million and Amazon). His work has also been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing awards and the Foyle Young Poet awards. Daniel was in Ms. Melissa Down's class at AWS. His mother, Ms. Rita Meikson, is our long-time Russian teacher. Congratulations, Daniel!
