AWS Alumnus Daniel Blokh named National Student Poet

Big congratulations to AWS alum Daniel Blokh who has been named National Student Poet! The Institute of Museum and Library Services in conjunction with the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists and Writers selects only five young poets each year (one from each region) to hold this prestigious honor. We are so proud of him! Listen to an NPR interview with Daniel here.
Daniel's mother, AWS Russian teacher Ms. Rita Meikson says, "AWS helped him to grow and to fall in love with reading, writing, and creating, and his imagination flourished. He learned how to work hard, and how to be brave expressing his feelings and ideas." Daniel was in Ms. Melissa Downs's class at AWS and is currently a senior at the Alabama School of Fine Arts.
Stay tuned for an interview with Daniel here on our school blog!
